Katya Sivak, MA
Registered Clinical Counsellor (#11114)
I am a healing professional and my passion is guiding people to discover who they really are, beyond all thoughts and judgments about themselves. My style is full of humanity, humor and compassion, yet it is direct and honest. People tell me that because of my kind nature they feel safe and supported in sessions with me. I often combine my formal training as a Counsellor and Family Systems Practitioner with my lived experiences to facilitate growth and healing of others. I specialize in recovery from trauma, anxiety, depression, and help people navigate through grief.
When not in my counselling office I am out in nature - hiking barefoot, swimming in the ocean, foraging for wild herbs, and taking my son on many forest adventures. |
My Journey here
My ancestors are from Siberia and Ukraine. They were farmers, artists, teachers, and healers and I always felt their endurance, creativity, and wisdom in me. It is my natural and deep calling to help people heal that led me to pursue a counselling career. I believe people are capable of incredible things when they have the support they need. I feel energized when I am able to make a meaningful connection, and offer compassion and my creative energy to people who come to my office. This who I am. And this is when I am at my best!
Professional Growth
I have always had a great desire to connect with people and my education taught me how to make those connections effectively. I began my career as a researcher at UBC Behavioural Psychology Labaratory. I was interested in investigating Postraumatic Growth of Genocide survivors, Astronauts, and women working in the harsh environment of Antarctica. My Masters of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology from University of Victoria has given me the education necessary to work in the helping field and the self examination necessary to shape me in an effective counsellor. My recent work as a Family Therapist at Boys & Girls Clubs of South Coast BC, my continuous engagement as a Board member for for Pacific Postpartum Support Society and my involvement with BC Association of Clinical Counsellors have equipped me with skills and knowledge essential for supporting my clients in private practice.
